CHICAGO (January 30) – State Representative Candidate Dilara Sayeed earned the endorsement and support of Illinois State Representative Will Guzzardi (D-39th District). The endorsement comes days after the first 5th District candidates’ forum where Sayeed held her own against a former state representative and a Party machine insider.

Rep. Guzzardi joins other elected officials, faith leaders, and organizations, including  Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and Alderman Roderick Sawyer, State Representative Theresa Mah, and the Sierra Club, in supporting Dilara Sayeed. These are all progressive, authentic voices in the fight against Trump/Rauner policies that erode our civil rights and American values.

“I’m proud to endorse Dilara Sayeed in her race for state representative,” said Guzzardi. “The challenges facing our city and state are real, from economic inequality to educational opportunities to community safety. We’ll need fighters like Dilara who have the courage and integrity to challenge the status quo, stand upto Bruce Rauner, and fight for all of us. I’m eager to have her join us in Springfield.”

“Will is a strong progressive voice in Illinois politics, and his support and the support from many people like him, means a great deal to my campaign and the like minded people supporting me. Like them, I am not bought. I am not bossed. I am only beholden to the voters and residents of our state,” stated Sayeed.

Guzzardi joined the Illinois General Assembly in January of 2015, and since has sponsored legislation to reform the juvenile justice system, limit the burden of standardized testing on students, improve wages and conditions for Illinois workers, protect our state’s environment, and strengthen LGBTQ rights. While in Springfield, he continues to fight for social and economic justice and expanding services to communities in need.
